Cowboys place Franchise Tag on “Franchise Quarterback” Dak Prescott

After a drama filled, and highly disappointing season in “Jerry World”, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys will again have the distraction of their “Franchise Quarterback” sticking his hands out for money all season.

Dak Prescott, a 4th round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, bursted on to the scene when Tony Romo suffered a back injury in a pre-season game, essentially ending his NFL career. Rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot had the Cowboys offense booming and led the team to a 13-3 record. Dak and the ‘Boys subsequently took one of the most disappointing first-round Playoff exits in NFL history. Since then, Dak and the Cowboys have been arguably average, highlighted by an absolutely disappointing 8-8 record this past season.

Throughout all this, Dak has constantly reminded Cowboys ownership that he wants to be one of the highest paid QB’s in NFL history, with not much reason behind it. Dak reportedly turned down multiple $100 Million plus offers from the Cowboys, seeking at least $35 Million per year.

In a nutshell, that all leads us here, with Dak Prescott now being Franchise Tagged and now earning $33 Million from the Cowboys for one season, it begs the question, what’s next for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys? The relationship between Dak and Jerry Jones is quite obviously not too strong at this point, and I could imagine Dak being highly disappointed with no long-term contract extension at this point in career.

So, what does happen next? Does this spell the beginning of the end for Dak Prescott in Dallas? Does Jerry Jones back down and give Dak the record-breaking contract he is seeking? Does Dak back down and settle a less lucrative contract with the Cowboys?

Time will only tell, and one thing is for sure, this will carry a large distraction over the Cowboys season, as if they needed any more of those. Dak himself will also be playing to prove himself this season, showing his worth and backing up his claims to the mind-boggling contract he has been seeking. No matter the case, bring your popcorn to “Jerry World” this season.
